I Am - How Jesus Meets Our Deepest Needs 4. The Good Shepherd

“I AM…” – How Jesus Meets Our Deepest Needs 4. The Good Shepherd John 10: 11 - 30 This week we’re going to see Jesus as the “Good Shepherd” and I’m going to open with a story. Several years ago in Palestine, a tour bus rode through Israel’s countryside. The tour guide explained the scenery, the history, and the lifestyle. In his description, he included a portrayal of the ancient shepherd/sheep relationship. He told how the shepherd builds a relationship with his sheep—how he feeds them and gently cares for them. He pointed out that the shepherd doesn’t drive the sheep but leads them, and that the shepherd does not need to be harsh with them, because they hear his voice and follow. In the mi

Galatians - A Call To Freedom - 4. Uncovering Our Hypocrisy

Galatians – A Call to Freedom 4. Uncovering our Hypocrisy Key Text: 2:11-14 Galatians 2:1-14New International Version (NIV) Paul Opposes Cephas 11 When Cephas came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face, because he stood condemned. 12 For before certain men came from James, he used to eat with the Gentiles. But when they arrived, he began to draw back and separate himself from the Gentiles because he was afraid of those who belonged to the circumcision group. 13 The other Jews joined him in his hypocrisy, so that by their hypocrisy even Barnabas was led astray. 14 When I saw that they were not acting in line with the truth of the gospel, I said to Cephas in front of them all, “You are a

Galatians - A Call To Freedom - 3. No Longer Slaves

Galatians – A Call to Freedom – 3.No Longer Slaves Key Text: (2:1-10) Please turn with me to Galatians 2:1-10 Galatians 2:1-10New International Version (NIV) Paul Accepted by the Apostles 2 Then after fourteen years, I went up again to Jerusalem, this time with Barnabas. I took Titus along also. 2 I went in response to a revelation and, meeting privately with those esteemed as leaders, I presented to them the gospel that I preach among the Gentiles. I wanted to be sure I was not running and had not been running my race in vain. 3 Yet not even Titus, who was with me, was compelled to be circumcised, even though he was a Greek. 4 This matter arose because some false believers had infiltra

I AM - How Jesus Meets Our Deepest Needs - 3. The Door

“I AM…” – How Jesus Meets Our Deepest Needs 3. The Door John 10: 1 - 10 Doors are some of the most common things in the world, present in some form in all societies and cultures. Don’t you love how Jesus takes what is common in order teach us profound truth about His worth and His work? We’ve already seen that He takes ordinary bread and declares Himself to be the extraordinary Bread of Life. We learned that the qualities of light reflect the kind of Saviour He is when He said “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” Now He says –“I am the door.” Let’s make a few observations. 1. This phrase is both personal and powerful.

Galatians - A Call to Freedom - 2. Called By God

12 Feb Galatians – A Call to Freedom 2. Called by God Key Text: Gal 1:10-24 Our test tonight is Galatians 1:10-24 Galatians 1:10-24 (ESV) 10 For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant[a] of Christ. Paul Called by God 11 For I would have you know, brothers, that the gospel that was preached by me is not man's gospel.[b] 12 For I did not receive it from any man, nor was I taught it, but I received it through a revelation of Jesus Christ. 13 For you have heard of my former life in Judaism, how I persecuted the church of God violently and tried to destroy it. 14 And I was advancing in Jud

I AM - How Jesus Meets Our Deepest Needs 2. The Light of the World

“I AM…” – How Jesus Meets Our Deepest Needs 2. The Light of the World John 8: 12 - 32 This little nightlight is not very bright but it gives just enough light to dispel the darkness in the middle of the night. On the other extreme, some spotlights claim to be one million times brighter than a single candle. Their light is so bright that they come with a warning to not look directly into the beam. As we continue in our sermon series, we’re focusing on the 2nd “I Am” statement of Jesus: “I am the Light of the World.” We’re learning that whenever we come face-to-face with Jesus, an agonizing decision has to be made. When Jesus disrupts, some will desert Him and others will declare their allegia

I AM - How Jesus Meets Our Deepest Need 1. The Bread Of Life

“I AM…” – How Jesus Meets Our Deepest Needs 1. The Bread of Life John 6: 35 - 71 I’d like you to think about food right now. For some of us, that’s not all that difficult. Have you noticed that even when you eat your favourite food, you still get hungry again in a few hours? Some of us have been on a search for something that will satisfy and we’ve come up short. A few of us have tried partying, relationships, buying things, or supporting our favourite sports teams! In the long run, we’re still starving as we search for satisfaction. Ravi Zacharias -“With all our ingesting and consumption, our hungers are still many and our fulfillments are few.” New series called, “I AM… How

Greeting 1 Paul, an apostle—not from men nor through man, but through Jesus Christ and God the Father, who raised him from the dead— 2 and all the brothers[a] who are with me, To the churches of Galatia: 3 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, 4 who gave himself for our sins to deliver us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, 5 to whom be the glory forever and ever.
