My Service 1. Taking Back Sundays

My Service 1. Taking Back Sunday Key Text: 1 Corinthians 12:27 I want us to start a conversation among ourselves about firstly what are we doing here? And secondly is it working? The Statistics coming out the States are frightening; and I don’t thing that they are much better here. But it seems like the church is becoming more and more irrelevant within the world she finds herself in. And so we need to be honestly and realistically asking ourselves the question; why are we doing church here in Wilro park (i.e. why does Wilro Park exist)? And what are we doing in church here (is the ministry that I have in this church effective)? The challenge I am giving to you this evening is great; and wil

The Freedom Series 2. Don't Be Stupid With Your Freedom

Freedom Series: Don’t be Stupid with Your Freedom Text: Gal 5:13-26 It has been said that there are only two things that are truly infinite; the universe and human stupidity and we are not so sure about the first one. What is it about us that when we get a good thing we are so good at messing it up and losing it due to our own stupidity? A great example of this is a certain office assistant got a brand new computer and after some panic due to the computer not working she phones tech support: As she gets through see tells the tech support that she is having trouble with her Word program. The tech guys asks what kind of problems? "Well, I was just typing along, and all of a sudden the words we

Freedom Series: what it means to be Free

Freedom Series: What it means to be free Key Text: Gal 5:1-4 What does it mean to be "free in Christ"? Often our ideas of freedom encompass the idea of doing what we want to do. This thinking generally does not free the human soul but enslaves it to many snares. In fact someone who strives for freedom in doing whatever he wants is a man that is enslaved by himself. We generally do things in moderation so that they do not overtake us and become a trap for us later on. I am often amazed with Nic now that he can talk because; for as he can express himself so he can express his little will (and it is a strong little will); however this little will is bent towards things that are bad for him. Starting New Patterns

Over these two weeks we’re looking at God’s plan for us in the New Year. Last week we spoke a little bit about finding our new identity. God’s plan is not for us to have the same goals as the world, but to identify ourselves by what He’s done in and for us. This week we’re going to be talking about establishing new patterns. I’ll start by saying, we all want to get ahead in life – better body, fuller bank account, more friends; but the means that we go about achieving those goals often leave us feeling emptier, tired-er, and downhearted. One reason is because we usually start from a wrong foundation. When achieving those things are so that we can impress our neighbours, we often find them to

New You in the New Year

It’s a new year! A new year means many things: exciting new opportunities; report cards start on a clean slate; one year closer to getting a driver’s license. My main text tonight comes from 2 Corinthians 5:17 which says, ‘If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come!” We’re sitting at the beginning of a year, and the beginning of each year always speaks about newness, right? A new year is exciting; it screams potential – potential for change, for betterment. It is an important ‘checkpoint’ we pass on the path of our lives. CHECKPOINTS OF LIFE We know that time doesn’t stop, it doesn’t change direction, it doesn’t slow down, it doesn’t go in

New Year 2015 - Going the Right Way in the New Year

New Year 2015 - Going the Right Way in the New Year Psalm 1 As we continue to speak about “A Holy New You” we’re going to learn how to go the right way in the New Year. No matter how hot or cold it is around us we want the fires of our faith to be burning brightly. This won’t happen automatically. We have to be intentional about it. Since our time on earth is limited, let’s make the most of the time we have left. Here’s the main point of the psalm: Where you end up tomorrow depends on where you’re headed today. This psalm falls into 2 divisions of 3 verses each. v. 1 - 3 speaks of the righteous who are commended and v. 4 - 6 addresses the unrighteous that are condemned. The whole human race

New Year 2015 - Don’t Waste Your Year

New Year 2015 - Don’t Waste Your Year Ephesians 5: 15 - 17 Life is short, isn’t it? Or, as Dr. Seuss put it: “How did it get so late so soon? It’s night before it’s afternoon. December is here before its June. My goodness, how the time has flewn. How did it get so late so soon?” We can’t really slow life down, but we can slow down so that we live life to its fullest. As we said last week, we can’t go back to the glory or the guilt of the past, but we can move forward. I’m sure that you’d like some things to change in 2015. Much of what will happen will be beyond your control but there are some things you can control. While we all want a Happy NewYear, what God wants is a Holy New You. I Reso
